Brake Safety Week is Coming — Are You Ready?

August 25–31, 2025, is Brake Safety Week, an annual initiative by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) aimed at improving brake systems on commercial vehicles — and it’s right around the corner.

At Keane Thummel Trucking, safety is more than a requirement — it’s part of who we are. Brake systems are among the most important safety components on your truck, and during Brake Safety Week, inspectors across the US will be out in full force, conducting Level I and IV inspections with a sharp focus on brake systems.

What Inspectors Will Be Looking For:

  • Brake hose and tubing chafing or kinks
  • Air leaks in brake lines
  • Out-of-adjustment brakes
  • Missing or broken components
  • Worn brake pads or drums
  • Warning light functionality (ABS)

What You Can Do Now:

  • Perform a thorough pre-trip inspection every day. Make brake checks a non-negotiable part of your routine.
  • Report issues immediately. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t wait — let the shop know.
  • Watch for air leaks. Use your ears and your air gauges. Small leaks add up quickly.
  • Inspect brake hoses for wear and chafing. Hoses should be secure and free from damage.
  • Don’t ignore your ABS light. If it’s on, there’s a reason.

Why It Matters:

Brakes are the difference between a close call and a catastrophe. According to CVSA, brake-related violations consistently account for the largest percentage of all out-of-service vehicle violations during roadside inspections. Keeping your brakes in top shape protects you, your fellow drivers, and everyone else on the road.

Let’s Stay Ahead of It

Let’s work smarter, stay safe, and pass those inspections with confidence.

Thank you for doing your part to keep the roads — and our team — safe.
